Hey y'all! It's me, Janine! We were assigned another topic entitled, "Toughest Challenge?", in which I give my honest opinion on the workload for the first quarter of my first year in media!
First of all, I would like to address what was the hardest obstacle or challenge I had to deal with, and for me, I think that might be never being done. What I mean by that is that there is always something to be done. I guess that is a good thing, you're always occupied. Though, let me give an example of the bad side of this concept: You're done with a project, but then you realize you need to work on that other project. Once you're done with that project, you are given a blog topic, a PSA to work on, and a you have to write your scripts for the morning announcements. IT NEVER ENDS! Sometimes, I feel like I can't take a break from media, especially when you're trying to juggle all your other classes and home life. So, staying on top of everything is a bit of a struggle. But I'm sure I'll definitely get used to it.
Anyway, the workload, in my opinion, is not that bad. Sure, it could be stressful...actually it could be really stressful at times. Though, I'm sure that is what's expected in media. The deadlines are reasonable, we are given plenty of time to do things. Everything seems to be good. But since I'm a first year student, or "newbie" it gives a bit of an extra challenge. I'm lucky that I have good teammates and classmates that always help me out.
Lastly, about how this year compares to the past years, I can't say much about. So, instead I would say, from what I heard from other people, I think that this year is a both harder and easier. I would say this because, I mean come on, we have a really small class. 13 people, guys! 13 peeps! That means that we have different advantages and disadvantages. One thing is that since we have only 4 newbies, the newbies have more work this year than the newbies from last year. We participate in our group projects more compared to last year's newbies which equals more work. On the other hand, since we have such a small class things are more smoothly operated and Mr. M commented that it would be a breeze when we travel.
In conclusion, the first quarter was an interesting first glance at what the school year would be like. I can tell that the year is going to be WORK WORK WORK, but I know I can overcome all the challenges, stress, and obstacles in my way. :)
